HEIGHTENED MOTOR VEHICLE ENFORCEMENT PROVES EFFECTIVE IN NEW HAVEN
(6/2/2009) NEW HAVEN- Throughout this past weekend, New Haven Police made numerous arrests, seized illegal motorcycles and demonstrated that motor vehicle enforcement across the City successfully uncovers more than just speeding and quality of life issues. During a crime suppression operation, in the Fair Haven neighborhood of the City, officers identified 94 Motor Vehicle violations and made a total of 65 arrests. Of the 65 arrests, 56 were infractions, five were misdemeanors, one was a Drug Arrest, two were Interfering W/ Officer arrests and one was a Warrant Service for failure to respond.
At the same time, a detail to address illegal motorcycle and quad traffic on Saturday in the Whalley/Downtown area yielded one misdemeanor motor vehicle arrest, 19 infraction citations, three warnings for illegal equipment, the seizure of two illegal motorcycles and one narcotics arrests.
On Saturday and Sunday, enforcement efforts targeted safety, speeding and noise violations in the East Shore. This activity led to citations for 14 motorcycles, 15 cars, and two ATV's. Motorcycle citations were all issued for unreasonable noise while citations issued to cars were for a mix of speeding, stop sign and seat belt violations.
